Little Black book of Seafood

Mitch Tonks has written a little black book of seafood, detailing the best places to eat seafood in the South West. Many restaurants were featured in the book which has been beauifully crafted with wonderful illustrations. Amongst the restaurants was South Sands in Salcombe. The book was written for First Great Western, highlighting the wealth of the good food industry which is accessible by rail now.

Make-over transforms The Anchor Inn, Ugborough

The Anchor Inn at Ugborough re-opens its doors on 22nd March after a massive refurbishment that sees the pub bursting into life again after over a year’s closure. The pub, which dates back to the 17thC re-opens with a make-over transforming the dilapidated building into a contemporary, stylish pub with restaurant and elegant accommodation within the Inn and around the courtyard.

Situated in the heart of Devon on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, the Anchor’s low-beamed bar, full of genuine character is warmed by a roaring log fire in winter whilst outside you can expect a blaze of colour with hanging baskets in spring and summer. It sets the style for a place to stay which is easy, relaxing, warm and welcoming. The extensive investment and refurbishment has been masterminded by the team behind renowned hotel, South Sands at Salcombe. The team have tastefully incorporated all modern comforts into its historic surroundings and, as at South Sands, rooms are individually furnished with carefully chosen fabrics.

Stephen Ball, General Manager at South Sands and The Anchor: “We’re really excited to see customer’s reactions to the refurbishment as the pub was in a terrible state of repairs when we took it on and we have made many major improvements but kept true to the character of the building”.

Under the guidance of local chef and restaurateur Mitch Tonks a new menu has been created featuring simple wood-fired cooking showcasing local meats and seafood.

Mitch Tonks: “I think this is going to be one of those places that people travel miles to be at, it captures what Devon is all about, beautiful scenery, cosy stylish interiors and fabulous food sourced from pretty much right outside its doors!”

New restaurant coming to South Devon

A stunning new restaurant is coming to South Devon in the beautiful little village on Ugborough. It's perfectly situated at the gateway to the South Hams and will make an ideal base for adventurers and holiday makers on their way to Dartmoor.

The team from South Sands are renovating the building whilst trying to keep it's original charm. It will have the original bar in it and a large dining room has been added which will be catered for from a brand new kitchen with a Josper charcoal oven in it.

We will update you with more when the building work is finished. We can't wait to see it ourselves!
